David Allan Righetti
B: Nov 28, 1958, San Jose, CA
Pitching coach for the Giants since 2000, Rags Righetti was the first pitcher to both throw a no-hitter as a starter and lead the league in saves. Selected by the Rangers in the first round of the 1977 draft, Righetti was traded to the Yankees and won the AL’s Rookie of the Year award in 1981. Replacing Hall of Famer Goose Gossage as Yankee closer, Dave was named an All-Star in 1986 and 1987. He holds the AL save record for left-handers. Following the 1990 season, he played for the Giants, Oakland A’s, Blue Jays, and White Sox before retiring in 1995.
