Joseph Anthony Pepitone
Joe made the Yankees roster in 1962, thanks to a powerful swing and excellent glove. The ever-popular Pepitone remained a fixture throughout the decade, winning three Gold Gloves at first base and even playing center field after bad knees reduced Mickey Mantle’s mobility. In 1969, he was traded to the Astros, and then played for the Cubs and Braves. Pepitone made the 1963, 1964 and 1965 AL All Star Teams. In 1982, the Yankees hired Joe as batting coach, but he was replaced later in the season. In the late 1990s, Joe held a job in the Yankees’ front office.
