Frank James Malzone
B: Feb 28, 1930, Bronx, NY
An infield anchor at third base, Malzone ranks among the all-time Red Sox leaders in several offensive and defensive categories. He became the first player to lead the league at his position in games played, putouts, assists, double plays and fielding percentage, and tied an AL record for third basemen with 10 assists in a game. He hit for power, and in the 1957 season Malzone drove in 103 runs. Malzone was an eight-time All-Star and won three straight Gold Gloves. Inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1995, Malzone currently serves as a consultant for the Boston Red Sox.
