Anthony Michael Lazzeri
B: 12/06/03 in San Francisco, CA — D: Aug 6, 1946, Millbrae, CA
Tony was elected starting second baseman for the first-ever All-Star Game in 1933. During his years with the Yankees, he won six pennants and five World Series. He was a surprisingly powerful hitter for a middle infielder and considered one of the best-hitting second basemen in major league history. Lazzeri is the only player to hit two grand slams in a game. In that game he drove in 11 runs, still an AL record. Tony also shares the record for total homes runs in three consecutive games. Felled by a heart attack in 1946, Tony was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991.
