An outstanding relief pitcher and team captain for the Mets, Franco’s 1,119 career games pitched are an NL record, and rank third in major league history; his 424 career saves ranked third in major league history when he retired, and remain the most by a left-hander. Starting out with the Reds, John won the National League Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award in 1988, and won again with the Mets in 199. In 2005, at age 44, John pitched his final season for with the Astros, making him the oldest active pitcher in Major League Baseball that season.
