Anthony Francis Cuccinello

A second baseman who played for six teams in the 1930s and 1940s, Tony was the older brother of big leaguer Al Cuccinello and uncle of Sam Mele. Cuccinello led the National League second basemen in assists and double plays three times, hit .300 or better five times, and was selected to the first All-Star Game in 1933. In 1945 Tony missed winning the American League batting title by .000087 point. Nonetheless, he was released after the season and retired. Cuccinello later managed in the high minor leagues and coached for the Chicago White Sox.
