Anthony Richard Conigliaro
B: Jan 7, 1945, Revere, MA — D: Feb 24, 1990, Salem, MA
Tony C was a local favorite of Red Sox fans. At age 20, he led the AL in home runs in 1965, and was voted an All-Star. At 22, he became the youngest player to have hit 100 career home runs. In 1967, Conigliaro was hit in the face by a pitch from the Angels Jack Hamilton, damaging his left eye. He returned in 1969 and won Comeback Player of the Year. In 1970, Tony and his brother Billy both played in the Red Sox outfield. Sadly, he suffered a heart attack in 1982 and, never coming out of his coma, died in 1990.
