Ralph Theodore Joseph Branca
B: Jan 6, 1926, Mount Vernon NY
A three-time All-Star, Ralph won 80 games for the Dodgers with a career-high 21 wins in 1947. Yet, he is forever remembered for surrendering Bobby Thompsons Shot Heard ‘Round the World home run that gave the Giants the 1951 NL pennant in baseballs first playoff game. A back injury prematurely ended his career. After a period of self-doubt, Ralph has embraced his notoriety for Thompsons momentous home run. After retirement, Thompson and he became close friends and appeared in public together. A teammate and supporter of Jackie Robinson when he broke into the big leagues, Branca now dedicates himself to supporting the foundation named in Robinsons memory.
