Lawrence Robert Bowa
B: Dec 6, 1945, Sacramento, CA
Larry won two Gold Glove Awards and led the National League in fielding percentage six times. He retired with the NL record for career games at shortstop and career fielding average. With the fiercely competitive Bowa at short, the Phillies reached the postseason five times from 1976 to 1981. He batted .375 in the 1981 World Series as the Phillies captured the first title in franchise history. After retiring, Bowa briefly managed the Padres and, in 2001, was named Manager of the Year after bringing the Phillies within two games of the division title. Today, Bowa serves as third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
