Stephen Charles Balboni

Nicknamed “Bye Bye” because of his home run hitting prowess and “Bones” for his rotund physique, Balboni was famous for striking out – swinging. In parts of 11 Major League seasons, Steve hit 181 home runs and struck out 856 times. In 1985, he led the American League with 166 strikeouts. He also set the single season home run mark for the Royals with 36. That record still stands today. The starting first baseman for Kansas City in the 1985 World Series, Balboni batted .320 with 3 RBIs and playing excellent defense as the Royals beat the Cardinals in seven games.
